As you might already know, the Basques have a unique culture, language and many special traditions. Here are five things you didn’t know about Basque culture.
1. Basque is one of the oldest living languages.
Basque or Euskera is one of the oldest languages that's still spoken today. As it isn't related to any other Latin language, such as Spanish or French, is completely unique.
 
2. Basque language has six different dialects.
Biscayan, Gipuzkoan, Upper Navarrese, Lower Navarrese, Lapurdian and Souletin.
 
3. Basque language is also spoken in part of France.
Basque isn't just a language spoken in Spain, it's also spoken in the Basque region of southern France, which lies just across the French border in the Pyrenees.Â
 
4. They have their own national sport.
The Basques have their own national sport called esku pilota or pelota. The game is like a cross between handball and squash, and is very fast.
 
5. Folklore plays an important part in their culture.
Like in many cultures, folklore is very important for the Basques, and many of its myths and legends are still celebrated today. Basque mythology is similar to the Romans or the Greeks.

En Vitoria-Gasteiz, capital Vasca, me enamorĂ© de una Vasco-Extremeño con la que compartĂ 12 años de bellos recorridos geográficos y emocionales por todo Euskal Herria. AquĂ me quedĂ© y sigo enamorado de la gente, costumbres, gastronomĂa, tradiciones, lugares…….. En fin, cuando puedas, si no has venido, ven y te lo comparto!!!
